Microsoft has issued a statement to TechRepublic promising a speedy fix via a firmware update. Some users have reported that removing the devices from their docks or AC adapters solves the problem, while others state that even rebooting does not set the clock speed back to normal. The specs of the Surface devices are typically snappy, so with the Surface Pro 6 running at 1.9GHz, for example, the drop to 400MHz is an immense performance hit. The problem seems to stem from a firmware update that was released on August 1st, according to TechRepublic.
